We would like you to meet your new go-to Knoxville physiatrist, Dr. Adam Epps, who is joining ORTHOKnox orthopedic clinic! His specialty is Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, which is also known as physiatry. Dr. Epps states, “I love the idea of not just focusing on a patient’s pain but also improving their function as well.” He explains, “My approach to patient care is to diagnose, treat, and prevent spine, sports, and musculoskeletal pain and injuries.” He uses nonsurgical treatments which focus on the whole person and are specific to each patient so, if possible, recurrent or chronic pain can be avoided. His goal is to relieve pain and maximize function so that patients can return to better quality lives. Dr. Epps is dedicated to helping patients stay as active as possible at any age with comprehensive, compassionate, and innovative medical care.
Education:
Dr. Epps is definitely familiar with East Tennessee! He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry, Cellular & Molecular Biology from the University of Tennessee, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Before that, he completed a Pre-Professional Studies Transfer Path program at Walters State Community College in Morristown, Tennessee. He later earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) in Harrogate, Tennessee.
Dr. Epps ventured to middle Tennessee to continue his impressive education. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and went on to complete his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Vanderbilt University Medical Center-Stallworth. Following his residency, he secured a highly competitive fellowship in Interventional Spine and Musculoskeletal Medicine at Barrow Brain and Spine in Phoenix, AZ. During this time, he has demonstrated his dedication to providing comprehensive care for his patients, but we are so excited to bring him back to East Tennessee!

Dr. Epps holds several certifications, including ABPMR Part I and COMLEX-USA Levels 1, 2 PE, and 3. He is also certified in various life support programs offered by the American Heart Association, including Basic Life Support, Advance Cardiovascular Life Support, and Pediatric Life Support.

As an active member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Osteopathic Association, Tennessee Osteopathic Medical Association, and American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Dr. Epps remains committed to staying at the forefront of his field. Dr. Epps’ dedication to his profession has been recognized with honors and awards, including induction into many honor societies and receiving the Best Resident Abstract Award at the Spine Intervention Society Annual Meeting. His commitment to excellence is further exemplified by his outstanding performance, scoring in the 90th percentile on the Standardized Assessment Examination among all Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residents.

He serves as a Collection Leader for Sports Gift Nonprofit, assisting children by collecting sports equipment. He also provides sports medicine care for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon athletes and volunteers for ABLE Super Sport Saturdays. We can’t wait to see what he will do in Knoxville!
When he is not helping patients, Dr. Epps loves spending time with his wife, Lindsay, and son, Ace. He travels, lifts weights, golfs, plays pickleball, and spends as much time outdoors as possible. He states, “In the fall, you will find us in Neyland Stadium cheering on our beloved Vols!” Dr. Epps also has a history of playing college baseball and studying geography.
