Your physical therapy treatment plan will focus on exercise, biomechanical assessment, and manual techniques to restore motion and strength. Our therapists also provide traditional interventions including ultrasound, electrical stimulation, heat/cold, and massage, when required.
At OrthoKnox, we want to help you get better while providing friendly, customer-oriented service in a positive healing environment. OrthoKnox Physical Therapy at OrthoKnox is located onsite in our Knoxville, Tennessee office, right next door to the orthopedic surgery center. For an appointment, call (865) 251-3044 today.
Physical Therapy FAQs
Do I need a physician’s referral to attend physical therapy?
The state of Tennessee allows a patient to receive physical therapy care without a physician referral, under certain circumstances. However, many insurance companies require a physician referral for a claim to be processed.
When insurance is being billed, it is typically recommended to have a physician referral. Please call (865) 251-3044 and speak with Doris if you have any specific questions. If needed, she would gladly help you get an appointment with one of our orthopedic surgeons or another physician so you can obtain a referral.
How do I make an appointment?
Call Doris at (865) 251-3044 and ask to schedule an evaluation with an OrthoKnox physical therapist. We will need your insurance information to verify insurance benefits and obtain pre-certification, if required. We are open Monday through Friday, with extended hours Monday through Thursday.
What do I need to know about my first appointment?
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your first appointment for registration. Bring your identification and insurance card with you. If we will be evaluating and treating your low back or any problem in either leg, please wear or bring shorts. If we will be treating your neck or shoulder, women may find it more comfortable to wear a sports bra or tank top.
What happens at my first appointment?
A physical therapist will perform a thorough evaluation to determine the primary cause(s) for your limitations or pain. The therapist will gather information about your complaint and limitations and perform special tests that assist in determining the problem, including an assessment of your strength, flexibility, mobility at the joint, and muscle irritability.
Following the assessment, the therapist will educate you on the primary evaluation findings, develop an individualized rehabilitation program designed specifically for you, and begin treatment.
How often do I have to come?
This can vary from 1-2 visits and can exceed 1-2 months for more severe problems. Your physical therapist will make recommendations based on your individual findings. Following your physical therapist’s recommendations and home exercises will facilitate a more rapid recovery and may decrease the number of physical therapy visits you need.
